This September, like all the years, on 18th, is the birthday of our country. But, this is one of the most important, Why? Simple. It’s 200 years since the first national governing board. BUT, this is not our anniversary of the independence of Chile, we celebrate this day because that governing board was THE FIRST that we did like a “Free Nation”
September 18, is for a Chilean, an important day. We show all our patriotism. In all the schools, the children and the adolescent doing works related Chile, they learn how to dance “Cueca” and enjoy things like a barbecue or typical foods of the country.
In across the country, the people celebrate like different ways this day. A patriotism person enjoy the day with the family in a “Fonda” or playing typical games like “Emboque”, “Rayuela” or rising a Kite with the soft wind of the spring. Also watching the “rodeo” or riding a horse. But, for that we should be very Chileans.
But, for me is not a BIG celebration. Before my grandmother died, It was an important day, because exactly on September 18, it was her birthday and two days after, on September 20, the birthday of my grandfather. We enjoyed a good time with my cousins and all my family on September, but the things are not the same right now.
I think this is an important year, not just for celebrate, or eat or drink alcohol or something like that. We need be more united. This has not been a good year for the country. On February 27, a big earthquake destroyed the central part of Chile, now the miners trapped in the mine in Copiapo. The most important, or the thing more valuable that the Chilean have, is the solidarity, but is not enough, we need more unity to overcome all that we have passed.
We need to go back to our roots. We must know why we celebrate this day and not February 12, the original day of the independence of Chile. Our roots should be very important in our life, and should know how we can keep that.
